INTERNET EXPLORER 8 AWARD


The Windows Internet Explorer 8 Award competition is designed to recognize software applications that create enhanced user experience by leveraging Web Slices, Accelerators and Search Providers in Internet Explorer. The ability to create user experiences that go beyond the norm is important in building user bases, generating buzz and keeping users engaged. The experience you gain by participating in this award will help you and your team build important technical skills that are highly valued in the job market.

INTEROPERABILITY AWARD


The Interoperability Award is designed to recognize the software application that best leverages out-of-the-box Microsoft technologies and blends them with other technologies to connect people, data, or diverse systems in a new way. The ability to build technical bridges and blend technologies from different vendors, including free and open source software, has great value in the industry. The experience you gain by participating in this Award will help you and your teammates build important technical skills that are highly valued in the job market. Team size: Up to 4 students.

NEXT GENERATION WEB AWARD

 
Does the idea of creating an application that can be used by real people online around the world challenge you? Take on the challenge for the Next Generation Web Award and write an Open Source Web Application using modern technologies such as ASP.NET and register it for the Web Application Gallery. Create an innovative software and service application that unleashes the power of technology to benefit your area or … the entire planet. Team Size: Up to 4 students.

TOUCH & TABLET ACCESSIBILITY AWARD


The object of the Touch & Tablet Accessibility Award is to create a new education application that uses Tablet technology while expanding the possibilities about how a user interacts with the computer. Microsoft believes Tablet technology can contribute significantly to learning (for both the educator and the learner). There are great examples of the use of Tablet in learning in 1:1 computing, 1:many computing, and distance learning. More work is needed, and more creativity and ingenuity is required. In this Award, students will explore the innovative use of Tablet to expand the possibilities of accessible learning of persons with physical and/or cognitive disabilities limitations. Team size: Up to 2 students.

WINDOWS PHONE 7 "ROCKSTAR" AWARD


To win the Windows Phone 7 “Rockstar” Award, teams are challenged to create a Windows Phone 7 application (app) in either Silverlight or XNA. The app needs to be designed with the consumer in mind and should be as visually compelling as possible. Be prepared to demonstrate your team’s app entry running on an actual Windows Phone device or in an emulator. Mobile applications are “all the” buzz today. Windows Phone 7 is a revolutionary new platform and your team has the opportunity to be a part of it. This is a chance to think of something that is truly outside the box and be one of the first developers, ever, to be building apps for Windows Phone 7.  Create an app that people will love having on their Windows Phone. Team size: Up to 4 students.
