We created our Windows Phone 7 competition entrry: Fabric of Time in an attempt to point out some of the world's toughest problems while having fun at the same time. The game starts off with the protagonist searching for his father but then stumbles upon an item called dimensional scissors which allows him to travel between parallel worlds. This other world also has its fair share of issues and the player must try to find ways to better both worlds using resources found in both areas. It's a 2.5-D puzzle platformer where the player must control both characters simultaneously. The two characters have to rely on one another to get past the levels. Creating a Fabric of Time was a challenging endeavor and a great chance for us to sharpen our skills!

We created EduStones: a Windows Phone 7 competition entry that is a game to teach the importance of culture, history, and art. The system is meant to be used especially by young people, who may not be very interested in studying from books. The game is meant to be played close to the ruins of an ancient castle or in the alleys of a medieval or historic city, where players are required to scout the area and find alchemist's glowing stones on a virtual map. Players are motivated to perform fun physical and mental activities with friends by catching stones and solve puzzles unveiled by them. The game also works to educate young people on the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. For example, they can play in a map that teaches children the importance of recycling (Environmental Sustainability Millennium Goal) by asking them to collect virtual rubbish on the game map and throw it in the proper virtual bins to score points, or they can be invited to pick up some food and other goods at some donor supermarkets and bring them to poor people and charities. Our project is meant to make children aware of the problems that our world is suffering. Children and young people are our future and are the ones who will face these problems in some years.

My Game Design - Windows/Xbox (XNA) project is a game called Malaria Wars that improves knowledge about Malaria. It is an educational game that teaches the stages of the Malaria life cycle inside a human body, starting from an infected mosquito bite passing through vessels to the liver and ending with fighting Merozoites caused by Sporozoites that attack the liver. The game starts with "Captain Plasma" fighting germs that are sneaking into the body through a hand scratch and while fighting these germs, a mosquito bite is found. "Mr. Brain" then sends orders through nerves to check and protect the liver from Sporozoites, this attempt to protect the liver - fails, and causes Merozoites to destroy red cells, at last, Chloroquine is imported through the mouth to kill Malaria.

Our Software Design project: Brain will allow children, who had their elementary education interrupted due to natural tropical disasters (such as floods, heavy rains or hurricanes), an opportunity to continue developing their cognitive skills. Brain's system is based on the educative potential of digital interactivity, user-centered design, internet, cloud computing, and Microsoft technologies. Brain develops and delivers age-appropriate games, activity ideas and tasks, helpful for children in shelters.

Team New7ork believes that education shouldn’t just be limited to time in the classroom. Their Imagine Cup 2011 entry: G7oups is a Windows Phone 7 based application with a clear goal to improve education. With Windows Phone 7 experience and capabilities, Team New7ork has developed Project G7oups which works to bring people together to learn new skills, arrange live meetings, watch educational videos, and ask questions with other G7oup members, and in turn they get to share their educational experiences with each other. With G7oups, a member can access resources for their academic lessons, homework assignments, and more. G7oups helps anyone connect and share their educational experience with others.

Communication infrastructure breaks down when natural disaster strikes as it has happened recently in Haiti and Japan. Even though the two-way radio system (TETRA, P25) is used in disasters, there is difficulty on both rapid information dissemination and operational management. Our team's approach is our OPIC project (Open Platform Interface for Communication) to make a number of different communication methods work together and converge into one service. By using OPIC web and mobile service, not only the dispatched NGO can upload information by simply making a phone call without having to access the internet, but also the people in disasters can upload their information by operating the two-way radios. Through the OPIC web, International Organizations (IO) and NGOs exchange their information from dispatched NGO workers in developing countries or figure out the location and the time that are in needs of supplies in disasters through the web. OPIC will be an essential solution to help for IO and NGOs by supplying goods in developing countries and emergency relief. Learn more.

Our Game Design team BSB IT from Brazil made the game Free Cloud to encourage a player to make or join a global partnership organization. In the game, the player becomes founder of a non-governmental organization. The player must take on the responsibility to help that city in the world. What we really love about this game is that it encourages peoples to come together and make global partnerships. The player can start to help the city alone, but while they are helping, more people are “following” and joining the cause. They do not make “points”, but bring “followers” to the cause. The idea of followers came from social networks like Twitter and Facebook. The project is amazing now! Now its possible to play with everybody in the world, to connect real people to real causes. Connect with us!
