    IT Challenge Finals

Hi, I was looking over the Finalist page and I had a few questions:

    IT Challenge Equipment Information:

In order to guard the fairness and integrity of the competitions at the Worldwide Finals in Cairo, Microsoft will offer the same set of benefits, services, and rules for each team within each competition. Short Film finalists will be assigned a room with workspaces and will have access to:

    • Standard computer (workstation)
    • Competition servers
    • Audio, Video and Network configuration services will be provided to help if needed.

If you have any questions, please feel free to post them in the IT Challenge forum or contact us for support.

Once again, CONGRATULATIONS and WELL DONE! I'm looking forward to meeting each of you!

2009 Imagine Cup Short Film Captain

Does this indicate that we as IT competitors have access to the same equipment as the Short Film finalists?

Are we allowed to have our own equipment such as laptops, books, Internet, etc? Is there any restriction on what we can bring?

Finally, are there any tips for preparation for the finals?

I understand completely if none of this can be provided before the finals. Thank you for your help and I look forward to seeing all of you in Egypt.

You're not allowed to bring latops, internet etc.

For books there was a rule that if someone bring a book, it is accessible to everybody and no notes must be in there.

Personnally I think there shouldn't have books.

The competition must be the same for everybody.

I bring the two last years :

    - MP3 player
    - ear plugs
    - clock
    - clothes (in the night it's cold) especially in the morning
    - my happiness

    Hi,

As Jean said you can  bring published stuff like books that are available to everyone but usually this is not a good idea since you'll probably loose more time looking though books instead of trying to get the task done and move to the other.

The most efficient way of preparing for the finals is to get as much hands on experience with Microsoft technologies as possible. One good example is to build what you've written in the case study  in a virtual environment.

Usually the difference in time zones can be a problem for some and I've seen this in the final so you should be careful to get really well rested before the finals since this is a 24 hour event and at the end of it you will feel more tired than you have ever been in your life.

Feel free to bring an IPOD or any MP3 Player  just don't let the music be too loud like I did last year in the finals :). Take loots of brakes throughout the competition and remember to eat, although most likely you won't be hungry. When things don't exactly work as you want the best thing to do is to take a break, eat something or even take a walk to clear your head.
If you get sleepy from my experience the best way to deal with this is to drink a lot of plain cold water and take short breaks (go for a walk, talk to a stranger about something not related to the IT finals, wash your face, etc). Anything you can do to clear your mind is welcomed.  I know some drink coffee but the caffeine can increase your nervous state when things start going wrong.  The same is with energy drinks.

These tips are from my own experience in Korea and France, and they work for me. I know each have their own strategies for working under stress but these are my 2 cents.  Feel free to share your experiences.

    Cosmin

    So just to be clear:

Do we have access to internet during the 24h competition? Is it allowed to use through the servers?

Sometimes it is very helpfull to look for some resolution when we stucked.

    Hi,

Up until now it has been allowed, however the traffic is filtered and intercepted. You are allowed to search sites like technet and the online documentation however you won’t be allowed to send email, chat post on forums, etc.
