    Final Round requirements

Hi - I'm wondering if anyone knows what the final round of the compeition will consist of?

Will we be judged based on further presentation of our round 2 prototype? Or will we be required to design something new onsite? I have seen rumors of a 24-hour design challenge from last year's event...

I would appreciate any information that could help us prepare. :)

    Thanks,

    Dave

     Hi

Your round 2 presentation will be just a percentage from the final score(40% as I remember). The last 60% will be the 24 hrs project. 40/60 or 60/40, something like that ...
The judges will give you a theme for the 24 hrs challenge, a new theme, and you will need to imagine, design and implement a new project.
Anyway will be a great adventure :)

If you need more infos ask me

    Re: Final Round requirements

    Thanks. Two more questions:

    1) What's the approximate length for the round 2 presentation? Should we prepare slides?

    2) For the 24 hrs challenge, will there be restrictions on the technology we can use?

    Thanks for your help!

    Re: Final Round requirements

As I remember,  were 20 min for 24hrs project and 15 min for the 2nd round project... if you want you can prepare some slides, but the jury will pay more attention to your prototype... but some slides are ok too

For the 24hrs challenge we had on the computers blend, design, photoshop ... anyway, you can use any software  as long as you have license on it or you use trial versions ... to conclude with, I can say you can use whatever you wish(for example 2 years ago I used Softimage XSI to prepare some 3D and it was ok)

    Re: Final Round requirements

PS. About the total time of the presentations and the percentage for the importance of each project in the final decision, you can expect for some modifications, but in big lines this will be the same.

    New jury, new rules :)

    Re: Final Round requirements

Thanks for your insights Ionut. I'm curious if we will be allowed to use our laptops for the competition--or if we are required to use the provided computers?

    Thanks again!

Yes, you can use for sure your own laptop. The organizers will ask you about this soon, as I remember :)

PS. Even if you want to come with your own computer, you must know that the computers they will provide for finals are very powerful.

    Interesting. Thanks for posting this.

I'm curious, when he says 'feature bombing', does that mean that its okay to add new features to our application before the finals?

Also: Ionut, can you tell us what was the 24hr challenge problem when you competed?

    Re: Final Round requirements

For sure you can add more features to your project to impress the judges, so go on if you have some ideas :)

About last year 24hrs challenge: the theme was technology and education. In the 24 hrs the point was an educative application  for childs between 4 and 6 years old that can help them to learn quickly something(math, write, drawing etc).We created something to learn childs to draw.

2 year ago the theme was technology and health and the 24 hrs theme was to create an application for using in critical situations in medicine. We created a great interface for blood transfusions.

If you have more questions, ask me :)

    Re: Final Round requirements

I'm curious if you could provide any information about the general fidelity level of teams' final 24hr challenge concept? I'm interested particularly with respect to the emphasis of this competition being on interface design as opposed to development. Thanks!

    Re: Final Round requirements

This invitational is about interface design, so you will be judged for creativity, usability, coolness etc etc, but you must create a little prototype(simulation) to demonstrate the capabilities of your interface, too.

But, remember, all is about your interface :)

Can we still create another powerpoint to present in Paris even if we gave our rep one already?

Hi, I would like to know if I need to put the prototype-Interface in a certain program or if it's free to decide and it just has to work ...
