Microsoft couldn't be more excited to be hosting the Imagine Cup world finals in Seattle this summer! We are looking forward to welcoming talented young people from around the world to our hometown and offering them a taste of the local culture. Seattle is a dynamic, creative city that offers unlimited opportunities to experience heritage, art and culture, all in a setting of rare natural beauty.
This year's finalists will get unprecedented opportunities and experiences throughout the competition. They'll visit Microsoft headquarters in Redmond and experience some of the things that make Seattle, the Emerald City, so great. A variety of fun-filled events have been planned with our partners to celebrate our student finalists and their months of hard work, dedication and innovation.
Our finalists are staying at the beautiful University of Washington campus in their latest high-tech dorms. We're grateful to two of our 2014 partners for making this week even better:
Dozens of top student teams are competing for the Imagine Cup -- and you can watch the showdown live! On Friday, August 1st, at 8:30am Pacific time, come to our home page and see it all happen. We'll stream the World Championships event right there so you can catch every minute of it and see the dreams of these students fulfilled.

Microsoft has invited over 75 Microsoft Student Partners (MSPs) from over 50 countries to attend the first annual Microsoft Student Partner Summit. The MSP Summit is focused on celebrating the achievements these students have accomplished during their participation in the Microsoft Student Partner program, as well as provide them with an opportunity to develop their technical skills via deep-dive technical sessions and networking opportunities with product teams. The weeklong event coincides with the Imagine Cup World Finals and is hosted in Seattle and at Microsoft headquarters in Redmond, Washington.
When the sun comes out, Seattle's outdoor lifestyle shines! A Pacific Northwest tradition, Seafair has been a part of the Seattle summer calendar for more than six decades. This eight-week festival encompasses over 75 events, reaches nearly 2 million people annually, and culminates in Seattle's favorite summertime celebration: Seafair Weekend. Three days of hydroplane racing, a spectacular air show featuring the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and performances by some of the top wakeboarders in the world bring Seattleites and tourists alike together on the shores of Lake Washington year after year. The event is uniquely “Seattle,” and our world finalists will attend the Saturday evening fireworks display and concert. One lucky student team will even earn the chance to drop the flag on a hydroplane race!
Seattle's most iconic landmark and a symbol of the city's innovation, the Space Needle is the defining image of the city and a visually stunning encounter. Built as the centerpiece and inspiration for the 1962 Seattle World's Fair, the Space Needle has become a part of the Seattle experience. This year the Space Needle joins with Imagine Cup welcoming all the student finalists to experience the view from the 605-foot spire during the day when students take a break from the competition and explore the magic of the city through a fast-paced Seattle scavenger hunt! The scavenger hunt will include a technology challenge for the new interactive touchscreen digital wall on the Observation Deck. Additionally, the top three teams from this year's Imagine Cup competition will have the rare opportunity to make an unforgettable visit to the Space Needle rooftop!
The Space Needle will be the ultimate finish line for a round-the-city race to experience all our popular tourist destinations, including Pike Place Market, The Waterfront, and our bustling downtown! Student finalists will spend a perfect day in Seattle experiencing one of America's western frontier cities in a way they'll always remember. Good luck!
